Rae DeCoito Executive Director, Hawai`i Maoli

Hawai`i Maoli is pleased to announce Rae DeCoito as its new Executive Director. The announcement was made today by Hawai`i Maoli's Board of Directors and President Henry H. Gomes.
Her well-rounded leadership skills focus on creating and implementing strategic plans that build relationships with the community, government leaders and funders. Rae has more than 20 years of experience in the nonprofit and for-profit realms, having held executive, financial and operational positions for community based organizations. DeCoito’s background reflects a diverse and comprehensive understanding of Hawai`i Maoli’s missions and objectives. As a public servant, Rae has been responsible for the overall management of employees, providing leadership, vision and a Hawaiian cultural component to both staff and community members alike. Rae is devoted to improving the health, education and well-being of Native Hawaiians and all people of Hawaii. Rae has her Master’s in Business Administration and her Bachelors in Accounting. Rae is a recent graduate of the Native Hawaiian Hospitality Associations, Ola Hawaii certification program, the Native Hawaiian cultural training program.
As a member of several Hawaiian civic clubs, Rae represented Ali`i Pauahi Civic Club in Kauai last year, as a delegate at the annual AHCC convention. Rae has been an active member of the Hawai`i Maoli board of Directors as Treasurer.
Rae continues to volunteer her skills to enable non-profit Board of Directors and managers to develop best practices in strategic planning, sustainability, program development and fiscal and regulatory compliance through a cultural competency lens.
Rae was born on Oahu, and was raised and educated in the Bay Area of Northern California. It was there, that she began her involvement in Hawaiian civic clubs and outrigger canoe paddling. In 2004, she returned to Hawaii to raise her family and reconnect to her Hawaiian roots. Living in Kuliou’ou’, she began to explore what it means to be a Hawaiian living in the islands, of yesterday, today and tomorrow. Her personal journey has led her to become a champion of social justice.
Maile Alau
Grants Administrator, Hawai`i Maoli
Maile Alau is the Grant Administrator for Hawai`i Maoli and is responsible for grant administration, event planning, communications, and supporting Hawai`i Maoli’s activities in the community. Maile started with Hawai`i Maoli in September 2009. She has been working in non-profits in Hawai`i for the last 15 years and enjoys working with the Native Hawaiian community. She graduated from Kamehameha Schools and St. Mary’s College of California. In addition to her work at Hawai`i Maoli, she is raising to sons and supporting her husband who is currently deployed to Iraq.
Chuck Pierson Project Director Malama Mauna `Ala
Hawai‘i Maoli proudly announces the hiring of Mr. Chuck Pearson, of the Pearson Group, as the new Project Manager overseeing the Mālama Mauna ‘Ala Project. Tasked with completing the repair, renovation and long-term restoration of the buildings, structures and grounds of Mauna ‘Ala, Chuck offers his considerable talents and experience in construction, project management and historic preservation projects.
He received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Washington with further engineering coursework from Princeton University. He joined the Dillingham Corporation in 1980 beginning a distinguished career involving project management. While employed by the Dillingham Corporation, Mr. Pearson gained considerable experience in project management and general construction.
