What is the Native Hawaiian Business Directory?

The directory is a database of native Hawaiian owned businesses, people and support organizations located throughout the State of Hawai`i, the United States and beyond. The primary function is to allow markets and businesses to find each other quickly thereby avoiding the often tedious review of search engine results. In addition, and if the proper terms can be found in the descriptive text of each business listing, the directory allows for locating products and services offered.

Locating native Hawaiian businesses on the internet can be a daunting task. This directory was developed in order to minimize the efforts of finding products and services produced by Native Hawwaiians by helping to point the way. It's also important to recognize that many businesses do not have a presence on the web - but many may have a listing here. We are learning that customers are finding products and services. Businesses are also finding each other and collaboration and partnerships are being developed. This should be encouraging news and a great incentive for any native Hawaiian owned business to get listed and be found.

The directory will help you find the business, products and services, if available. Once found, the listing will provide the contact information, ie., phone, cell, fax, email and/or website links.

Who can be in the directory?

Eligibility for listing within the Native Hawaiian Business Directory will be determined by any of the following:

• any part of the business is owned by a native Hawaiian;
• for non-profit organizations: majority owned, controlled or governed by native Hawaiians;
• non-Hawaiian whose spouse, and/or family, are native Hawaiians.

Who controls the directory?

Management and maintenance of the directory and its contents are controlled by Hawai`i Maoli.

Is there a cost to be listed in the directory?

No, the development of the directory is provided through the generous support of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs.
